What's New on Orient...
New Club Room!!! Denis Pairault announces plans to convert Chalet #44 into a "club room" this fall. This unit will house our library, card tables, and a big screen TV to watch what the crowd wants. This will also be a great respite from the high energy of Papagayo and be close enough to carry food and drink next door. At the club room you should also be able to access Wi-Fi from Papagayo.

Club Orient produces it's own power and water. Due to rising fuel costs, starting October 1st, 2008 there will be a fuel surcharge of €5 per day on all stays.

Club Orient will be shooting photos at the resort during the week of August 8th-15th. Exact dates depend on weather and models. Don't be surprised to see someone walking around with a camera. Specific questions regarding the shoot can be discussed with the manager. If you want to be in a shot and are identifiable, a release will need to be signed. No one will be photographed who does not give permission.

A Pizza oven will be making it's debut at Papagayo in September! Pizza !!!

Newsletter A Success
Our first newsletter in 13 years was well received! We sent our newsletter out to over 9000 people and only received 37 responses back from those who did not want to receive. We continue to receive requests daily for additional names to be added! If you have received our newsletter second hand and wish to be added to our mailing list, please send a request and your email address to newsletter@cluborient.com.

We had the most wonderful responses from everyone! Just to share "a few"..

"Wear Nothing... It's Everything", "Happiness", "Sun kissed Everywhere", "Tranquility", "Freedom", "No worries-No Clothes", "Where a smile is all you wear", "Serenity", Paradise"

Thank you all for sharing your thoughts and contributions!

July 4th Parade was great fun!
80 people took part in the infamous Orient Beach July 4th Parade, with the Club Orient Flag leading the way. People were dressed up as "firecrackers".

There were painted on bikinis, star's and stripe's etc. Unfortunately only one photo-graph was approved to be published as most activities have to be seen to be believed!

Hope to see you there next year!!!

Notes on Sun tanning:
As everybody knows, skin color changes, to some extent, in response to sun exposure. Under natural circumstances, as you are exposed to the sun, the pituitary gland produces hormones that act as boosters for your melanocyte's and they start producing melanin on overdrive. Unfortunately it is very easy to disrupt this process. The pituitary gland gets signals from the optic nerve, which senses sunlight. Guess what happens when you are wearing sunglasses? Much less sunlight reaches the nerve, less stimulation to the gland and less melanocyte production...and more sunburn. You want to get a quick even tan before you go to St Martin? Take off your Ray-Bans, read those beach novels with your regular glasses and you'll tan better without burning.

The other problem is that tanning and forming Vitamin D severely depletes your folic acid levels. Three weeks at the beach? You better take supplemental Folic Acid, unless you have extremely dark skin. Now you know why you have those cravings for salads while you're at Club Orient. Use of tanning beds or sun worshipping vacationers are in the same boat. So it is a constant battle of Vitamin D versus foliate loss.In our case, bring folic acid tablets with you, it will make for a healthier, happier, guest!

Welcome Back!!

After too long of a hiatus, it is our intention at Club Orient to renew publishing a newsletter that began in 1993 and ended as far as we can tell with the arrival of Hurricane Luis. It is our intention to amuse, inform, and hopefully enlighten you our guests and interested individuals. If you want to be removed from our e-mail list, feel free to e-mail newsletter@cluborient.com and you will be removed. If you would like to have something added or feel motivated to contribute anything please e-mail us your copy. If you have a friend that would like to be added to our email list please send it along, they can opt out at any time..

A moment with the manager...

Dear friends of Club Orient,

We would like to take 2 minutes of your time and ask you a favour, as we are in the process of updating our marketing strategy and our website in particular. What 5-10 words come to your mind when thinking about Club Orient? What words would you use in convincing friends/family to join you? Simply write them and send to manager@cluborient.com. I am always interested in what our guests have to say. Here is my first reply: "Where Gucci and Wal-mart meet naturally." It was a good way to start a Sunday.

Best Warm and Sunny Regards from Club Orient Resort, Denis Pairault

Specials...

We are offering 15% off right now for bookings of 14 days or longer throughout the summer months through mid October. Club O's special exchange rate of 1.40 versus the official (1.56 as of this writing), this makes for a very attractively priced clothing-optional get away.

The summer months of warm waters and humid air with calmer breezes have an advantage over the winter months. Check our website for details www.cluborient.com

Website Club

Orient has also signed a contract with a prominent website design firm to develop our new website as the cornerstone of our presence in the world. It is expected to be done sometime later this summer. We look forward to this new look. Stay tuned.

Feature Food of the Month

Friday nights are our featured seafood night at Papagayos Restaurant. 10 Euros buys you a bucket of mussels in a delightful cream sauce. Many call this an appetizer but dipping the bread in the cream sauce makes this an inexpensive light meal. Recommended wine choice would be the French Rosé. The fruitiness of the wine seems to highlight the tanginess of the mussel sauce. Bon appétit!

What's New on Orient..

Pre-announcement of our 30th Anniversary.

Club Orient will be having special events…..details to be announced. To get you thinking here is the photo from the front of our first color brochure.

To get us all in the mood for the 30th Anniversary of the Club starting in 1978!, We'll start seeing who thinks they know some real club facts.

The Club O Quiz #1

1) The first printed name of the resort as featured on a construction sign "starting soon here" was? (hint, not the current name or the one in the brochure)

2) What unit did a 50ft catamaran end up upside down in front of after hurricane Luis?

3) In July of 1989, Club O sponsored windsurfing lessons. Who were the instructors?

4) During the same period, the Club also offered tennis lessons, what was the only listed requirement? (it wasn't wearing pants)

5) What Chalet offered massages by Martha?

Quiz answers at the end of the newsletter...

Sand:

Our lovely beach has about as much sand as it has had in recent years. Hopefully the fall storms will be gentle on us. The most sand ever seen was in the immediate aftermath of Luis which gave our beach even 50% more than currently. If we had the chairs, up to six rows could be placed right now in front of the waterfront chalets. It is even shallower out for a long while from the edge of the surf. All the more fun for us! The reports last fall of Papagayos falling into the sea were definitely premature .

American Airlines:

In what appears to be an endorsement of Naturist vacations, American Airlines has announced that checked bags at least within the US will be charged $15 for the first bag. Save the trouble of luggage, think Club Orient! You can pack light!

Flora and Fauna Report:

As naturists or people interested in naturism, one of the tenants is to be aware of the world around us. At Club Orient, being part of the nature preserve, we have ample opportunity to interact and appreciate our environment.

St Martin does not boast a tremendous variation of bird life in comparison to other islands like Puerto Rico or Tobago. A good birder on the island may see thirty species over a long period. On Trinidad, one can see thirty species having lunch. This is due to St. Martin's location far from the larger islands and from South America. But of the birds that make our paradise home, one of our favorites is the Red-billed tropicbird.

The red-billed tropicbird is found throughout the mid latitudes and in all three oceans. This fairly large bird breeds on and around Orient Beach. It can be identified by its long feather of its central tail black striped head and reddish beak if seen close. You can also see them floating on the ocean and I have seen them light on perches in Marigot harbor. These birds nest in crevices and have a spectacular mating flight of multiple pairs inter-circling. I have seen these birds nesting on Tintamarre Island in the red cliffs by the Tiko Tiko mooring spot and I have seen them cruising over Orient Beach usually every day.

Quiz answers: 1) Oriental Bay Beach Resort 2) 53 3) Whitfield Brothers 4) Tennis shoes 5) 39
